Cain and Abel are traditional English renderings of the Hebrew names Qayin and Hevel.

The name Qayin (Cain) means “metalsmith”, and the name hevel (Abel) means “herdsman”.

The Human Race had never before experienced mourning, so after the tragic death of Abel, naturally Adam and Eve grieved the loss of their second born son Abel, this is known as the first mourning.
